Challenging races in Gaildorf

The sixth round of the ADAC MX Masters took place last weekend in Gaildorf, Baden-Württemberg. After a long wait, the junior classes in the 85cc and 125cc categories also returned to the traditional 1800 metre hard pack track. This track took its toll on the main classes of the ADAC Youngster Cup and the Masters class in particular.

The SHR Motorsports team competed with Petr Polak and Mike Bolink in the Masters class and Jayson van Drunen in the Junior Cup 125. Unfortunately, Sigurd Thomsen from the Junior Cup 85 class was still missing due to the serious injury he suffered in training at the beginning of June.

Qualification

In the fast qualifying group B, Petr Polak was able to qualify directly for the races with 14th place. Mike Bolink missed out on direct entry by just 0.2 seconds. Jayson van Drunen finished 11th in qualifying.

Last chance race and qualifying races on Saturday

Mike Bolink started from pole position in the Last Chance race and after a good start was able to move up to 4th place. Unfortunately, he didn’t have the necessary flow and the track simply didn’t suit him. He slipped down to 24th place and thus missed out on qualifying for the first time in his career.

The first race of the Masters class also took place on Saturday. Petr Polak had to go wide at the start and was thrown back to 28th place after the first corner. With good speed, he fought his way up to 19th place.

Race on Sunday

Sunday began with Jayson van Drunen’s first race. The Dutchman already felt comfortable on the track in the warm-up, which he proved impressively in the race. With strong starts and an incredible fighting spirit, Jayson achieved fifth place in the first race and fourth place in the second, which earned him fifth place overall.

Petr Polak again didn’t get off to the best of starts in the second race, but was able to work his way up to 18th place as the race progressed. In the third and final race, injuries and technical failures on the part of some of the riders gave him a better gate pick. Polak was in the top 3 on the start straight, but was pushed away slightly and came out of the first lap as a top 10 rider. In the meantime, he slipped to 11th place, but was able to fight his way back to 9th place thanks to his strong hard-surface skills and thus showed his true performance.

Summary

The weekend in Gaildorf ended with mixed feelings for the SHR Motorsports team. Despite some setbacks, Petr Polak and Jayson van Drunen in particular were able to impress with strong performances.

Special thanks go to the many guests from Hartje and Suter for the great conversations between the races.

We are looking forward to the next round and hope that the team can continue to show strong performances.
