SHR Motorsports secures podium and top 10 finish

The second last round of the SHR Motorsports by Hartje team took place in Jauer, Saxony, as part of the ADAC MX Masters. The fast, 1700 metre long clay track guaranteed excitement and thrills during the races.

Qualification

The team started the practice sessions in bright sunshine on Saturday morning to get used to the new track layout. Unfortunately, Mike Bolink had a serious crash in free practice, injuring his shoulder.

Despite the setback, the team showed a strong fighting spirit. In the qualifying sessions, Jayson van Drunen secured an excellent fourth place in the Junior Cup 125, a promising starting position for the races on Sunday. Petr Polak also put in a strong performance and finished qualifying in 7th place in Group B, which gave him 13th place on the grid for the first race. Bolink, still marked by his crash, missed out on direct qualification, but was able to secure a grid position for the Heatraces in the last chance race on Saturday afternoon.

First race on Saturday

The first race for Masters riders Bolink and Polak took place late on Saturday afternoon. Both Yamaha riders came out of the starting gate well and were able to position themselves directly in the top 10. Unfortunately, Mike Bolink lost valuable places due to the dense crowd in the first corners and found himself in 26th place. Polak, on the other side, held on to 7th place and showed strong duels against high-calibre world championship riders such as the German Tom Koch and the Finn Jere Haavisto during the course of the race. He finally crossed the finish line in 8th place, while Bolink, visibly battered, finished 31st.

Race Sunday

On Sunday morning, Jayson van Drunen opened the race day for the SHR Motorsports team in the Junior Cup 125. With a sensational start, he took the holeshot and moved to the front of the field. Exciting duels with his Dutch compatriot Dean Gregoire turned the race into a real thrill ride right to the end. But Van Drunen kept himself cool and crossed the finish line in first place with a wafer-thin lead of 0.28 seconds. Very happy and relieved, he went to the race-winning interview.

Things went less well for Polak in the second race of the Masters riders. Although he got out of the starting gate well, an unfortunate gear change into neutral cost him valuable time, meaning he was last to pass the first corner. However, with an impressive race to catch up, he fought his way up to 14th place.

The second race in the Junior Cup 125 also went well for Jayson van Drunen. Although he narrowly missed out on the holeshot, he was able to move into third place straight away and work his way up to second place on the very next lap. Halfway through the race, he took the lead with a clean overtaking manoeuvre and never relinquished it until the end. A perfect race weekend for van Drunen, who also secured his first overall victory from the season with his 1-1 result and thus collected 50 points for the championship.

Petr Polak and Mike Bolink competed one last time in the final race of the weekend. Both riders once again showed a strong start. Unfortunately, Polak was involved in an unfortunate crash at the start and found himself at the back of the field. Undeterred, the Czech fought his way up to 13th place, while Bolink had to retire from the race prematurely due to his injury. Polak finished the weekend in 10th place overall.

An exciting and challenging weekend for the SHR Motorsports by Hartje team, which experienced both highs and lows.
